The IX All-Russian Olympiad in Emergency and Urgent Care, "Asclepius," a large-scale competition for medical students with international participation, was held at Stavropol State Medical University (SSMU) from May 13–15, 2026.

Who participated and how the competition was held

The tournament was attended by 15 teams from leading medical universities and academies in Russia and abroad, including representatives from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Crimea, India, and other regions.

The competition included two stages:

  1. Correspondence selection.
  2. In-person stage — an obstacle course using simulators and dummies.

Students demonstrated their skills in:

  • resuscitation;
  • diagnostics;
  • first aid for injuries.

The participants were evaluated by leading doctors and professors from Stavropol State Medical University, and were welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Stavropol.

Results and Winners

The winner of the IX All-Russian Olympiad "Asclepius" in 2026 was a team of students from Rostov State Medical University. (Rostov State Medical University).

But the organizers emphasize: there were no losers at this tournament. Each participant honed crucial professional skills under the guidance of experienced mentors—and this is already an important step into the profession.

The Olympiad in the Context of a Large-Scale Dialogue on the Future of Medicine

The event was held as part of a large-scale conference that brought together over 350 experts. Experts discussed key trends in medical education, including:

  • implementation of artificial intelligence;
  • development of hybrid lecture formats;
  • improving the practical skills of future doctors.

An initiative that changes the approach to education

The "Asclepius" Olympiad is held annually at StSMU with the support of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation. Its founder and inspiration are Oksana Vladimirovna Vladimirova, a StSMU professor and surgeon, and her colleagues.

In addition to the main May Olympiad, StSMU periodically organizes the interregional competition "Asclepius – Profi". It is focused on developing more specific practical skills.
